Welcome to FolderShare¬! This program is ONLY useful to people running on an AppleShare¬ (will not work with Tops¬ or MacServe¬), and requires System 4.1 or later.
WHAT IT DOES
AppleShare has one very nice feature in allowing people to limit access to information in folders, but is flawed in the way that folders are ALWAYS created such that they only permit the creator any access to new folders. FolderShare lets YOU decide what access privileges will be assigned to new folders.
INSTALLING FOLDERSHARE
FolderShare is very easy to install, just copy it to your system folder and reboot. If it is able to install itself, you should see the FolderShare icon printed on the screen.
USING FOLDERSHARE
Start by opening the control panel, then clicking on the FolderShare icon. You should now see the FolderShare screen.
To set the privileges for the owner, group, and everybody, just click on the checkboxes to turn them on or off. To make new folders owned by everyone, check off the appropriate box. To assign a new folder to someone other than the creator's primary group, check off the appropriate checkbox, then pick the group from the scrolling memo.
THE LEGAL STUFF
FolderShare is freeware. You do not owe any license fee for it, you may give unmodified copies to others, but you may NOT sell it.
Why are we giving this product away? Unfortunately, one of the side effects of CE Software's growth is that we can no longer make any money selling small utilities like this. Rather than hoard this utility (hoping that somehow, someday it'll start producing money), we've decided to turn it into an advertisement. Click on the about box to see what's happening with our company. The pictures do make this program much larger than it otherwise would be, and so you do have our permission to remove the PICT resources with ResEdit from copies you'll be using. However, you may NOT give out copies with the pictures removed. Please make sure the pictures remain intact, it'll encourage us to do this again.
